My philosophy of child development includes the theorists Abraham Maslow and John Bowlby.  I truly believe that children who have a positive experience during the infancy periods develop an early but secure attachment to caregivers. This will increase their chances of having a better experience/outcome when they attend school and have the confidence in forming relationships with other adults and with peers.

If children know that their needs will be met, they will develop trust. Meeting the child’s basic needs is important in building the foundation children need. “Self-actualization is the process of having basic physical and social/emotional needs met so that the individual develops positive self-regard and becomes a creative, contributing member of society.”  (Wittmer, 2017)

If children are in my classroom and those basic needs are not being met, children will have no zest for learning.

My goal as an Educator is to build the relationships with the children, the parents and the community. In doing so, children will learn to trust, form new relationships, and know that myself and school is a safe environment and will have that bond while they are in this environment, we will meet their needs to the best of our ability. Parents are children’s first teacher, and if the children can observe and see the bond that I have formed with their parents, they will be more open to trust me, hence the learning environment will be a good place to not only learn but form new relationship with myself and their peers.
